Meet Our Micro Grant Winners:
Dr. Shanika Thomas – School Social Worker (The Classroom Impact Winner)
School: Wesley International Academy, Atlanta, Georgia
Dr. Thomas is the social worker at Wesley International Academy charter school in Atlanta, Georgia. With nine years of experience, Dr. Thomas shares, “I want to break the barriers hindering students' overall success. By doing so, students will achieve better in school.” Her work not only supports students' academic journeys but also their personal growth!
Diane Chianis – Elementary Art Teacher (The Classroom Impact Winner)
School: Homer Brink Elementary School, Endwell, New York
Mrs. Chianis has dedicated 32 years to teaching and is currently teaching art at Homer Brink Elementary School in Endwell, New York. She hopes her impact as a teacher will help her students “to be kind to one another, to be confident, and to know that they are always loved!”. Through her creativity, Mrs. Chianis inspires her students to express themselves and explore the world of art!
Sarah Sherman – 7th Grade English Teacher (The Classroom Impact Winner)
School: Jennie F. Snapp Middle School, Endicott, New York
In her second year of teaching, Mrs. Sherman is a 7th grade English teacher at Jennie F. Snapp Middle School. She passionately shares, "I hope my impact as a teacher inspires kids to dig deep and discover what they want to give back to the world!". Her enthusiasm for literature captivates students and empowers them to find their voices and express their unique perspectives!
Dierdra Arnold – Special Education Teacher (The Lunch Card Winner)
School: Talley Street Elementary, Decatur, Georgia
Mrs. Arnold teaches special education at Talley Street Elementary in Decatur, Georgia. She emphasizes the importance of healthy eating, both at home and in school lunches for her children. "We began making school lunches with more fruit! We encourage trying new foods and include fruit and vegetables with every meal!" Her commitment to promoting healthy habits creates a nurturing environment for not only her children but for her students as well!
